Swearing-in Ceremony

Today I took the oath of service and am officially a Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo. We have been preparing for swear-in for so long and it is hard to believe that tomorrow we will be in village.

The swearing-in ceremony was wonderful. The Deputy Chief of Mission from the US Embassy, our Country Director, the Minister of Commerce of Togo and, Togolese officials, Peace Corps staff, and our host families all celebrated our successful completion of training at the country director’s house in Lomé. Each PCV was responsible for doing a short speech in local language. My speech was in Ewe and I am going to upload the speech to my facebook page as I can't get it on here.

  2. I wish! I am no where close to being fluent in Ewe.... it is soooo hard. I said the equivalent to my name, where I'm from, where I will be living in Togo, and what I will be doing. Oh and the whole thing was televised and I've had people come up to me on the street and say "Hay aren't you the Peace Corps Volunteer that I saw on TV?" lol
